The Advanced Composite Materials Technology Research Center(ACMT) will engage in the R&D for core areas of competence such as design and analysis, manufacture, and structural performance evaluation of advanced composite materials, unique to this region. The Center will work closely with national research institutes, trade associations and industry to identify key problems and challenges where advanced composite technology can enhance the productivity of industry, as well as to exploit new applications.
It will provide state-of-the-art research equipment, teaching and training facility, technical expertise to HKUST as well as to Pearl River Delta industries and to develop advanced composite materials technology and their applications.
Areas of Focus:
- |
Design and computational structural analysis; |
- |
Cost-effective manufacturing technology for composite structures; and |
- |
Testing methodology for large composite structures. |
| These core technologies are used in
the
aerospace, automobile, ship building, infrastructure, wind power, and recreation industries. |
The Center will also serve as a training center for graduate students as well as for practical engineers who are interested in composite technology for industrial applications. Training courses, conferences and seminars will be held regularly. The center will also undertake research projects, develop new products and offer various technical, consulting, contract research and technical service.
