Central research facilities are built to support the research and development activities of the Research Institute's research centers. A key infrastructure, the research centers will benefit in the following ways:

A common service / capability, is provided for use by different departments and schools; |

Efficiency, resulting from economies of scale, means (limited) resources can be better utilized, including the justification of buying and operating more advanced equipment for multiple users, against less capable equipment scattered among several units; |
- |
Centralized technicians and maintenance personnel are more effective, in some cases; and |
- |
Avoids duplication. |
