The Center for Demography and Sustainable Development (CDSD)'s main focus is to analyze population change and development in China. Its main objectives are:
(a)
to set up Demographic Information Systems to facilitate data collection, integration, and analysis in the region;
(b)
to conduct research and policy analysis on population change and socioeconomic development including international migration between the region and the world;
(c)
to promote regional and international collaboration in the research fields; and
(d)
to provide various training programs on spatial and socio-demographics for post-graduate students, professional statisticians and market analysts.
Areas of Focus:

Labor force and employment growth in China;

Social / regional inequalities: patterns, trends and explanations;

Labor migration, urbanization, and regional development;
-
Fertility transition and population policy;
-
Immigration and return of overseas Chinese; and
-
Health, aging, mortality patterns and their social impacts.
